Turnberry Hotel, Scotland
First opened in 1903, Turnberry Hotel is one of the finest hotel and golf resorts in the world. It exudes opulence and old world charm whilst providing the best that the modern guest expects from a 5-star hotel with a range of facilities available. With a stunning elevated location, it was the location for the 2009 British Open Golf Championship, it hosted the worlds best golfers.
The project has revived the grandeur of the Grand B listed hotel and its 219 rooms by re-forming the original spaces and layouts. The structural changes associated with this remodelling required an intricate series of internal strengthening and alteration works. The resulting Phase I refurbishment has provided guest with a new open grand foyer, restored the Grand Tea Room, a new reception area, a new sports bar, the ‘Duel in the Sun’ (recalling past events including the famous 1977 playoff between Jack Nickalus and Tom Watson which so very nearly repeated), along with a wide range of refurbished back-office facilities.
The project was shortlisted for the 2010 European Hotel Design Awards.
